Anadey tests refillable cleaning products for the Home things review.
28 June 2022

The world is crazy. Isn't it time to reconsider what we have in our kitchen? According to Home Things, an environmentally friendly cleaning company, B Corp. is reducing the usage of single-use plastic in homes. In 2020, the company launched a Kickstarter campaign. Later, it appeared on Dragons' Den, where their selection of refillable cleaning supplies won over the Dragons. For all of your cleaning necessities, it now provides flexible subscriptions. They are non-toxic, devoid of single-use plastics, reasonably priced, and have great branding.
To see whether the Home Things refillable cleaning products live up to the hype, I tested them. Here is how I did.
Why is there something?
Homethings seeks to reimagine how we clean our homes and where cleaning supplies are.
The band objected to the damaging effects of standard cleaning supplies on the environment.
In addition to having a dangerous chemical mix, the container is frequently made of single-use plastic.
Added to that? Up to 90% of typical cleaning solutions are composed of water.
CO2 emissions during transit rise due to the shipping's increased weight and size. Home Things, therefore, devised a substitute. The outcome?
No hazardous chemicals Vegan Cruelty-free
avoiding single-use plastic
Avoid greenwashing
No beverages.
You must add water to all Home Things refillable products because they are given as dry tablets. Easy.
It is also B Corp certified.
"Up to 90% of the water in typical cleaning solutions is contained in Homethings,"

Review of Homethings refillable cleaning supplies
I received a Home things package with a spray bottle for each of the three tabs—Allthings, Baththings, and Shiny things.
I also purchased a bag of 40 dishwashing pills and three Magic Spongethings.
First perceptions
The slender recyclable package that included my Home Things cleaning bundle was delivered.
The branding immediately attracted my attention when I first opened it because of its vibrant colours and clever sayings like "Don't be a vanilla, be a refill."
The cleaning tabs were packaged separately in a black cardboard sleeve with a summary of the contents and simple graphic instructions showing me how to use them.
The spray bottles were the only plastics in my bundle. However, they are intended to be reused (you can get glass versions if you prefer).
You may easily substitute empty spray bottle that you already have around the house with those to get additional eco-points.
It is more accessible because the tabs dissolve into various colours (orange for Allthings, green for Shiny things, and blue for Batthings).
Since the bottles are small, you may store them in your cleaning cabinet without taking up much space.
If you lose the tab box, the directions are conveniently located on the back.
Later, when I looked closer at the bottle, I saw a wonderful touch: a QR code encouraging you to scan and enjoy a Spotify song while you clean.
You'll surely stay inspired thanks to the cheerful music!
How I evaluated goods from Home Things
As part of my regular cleaning regimen, I tried the cleaning products. My house is a little unkempt on purpose.
It had wet spills, dry filth, and a mirror that required a good cleaning.
I followed the spray cleansers' directions, putting the tab in after carefully filling the bottles with lukewarm water to the top.
Before putting on the nozzle and starting to work, I let them a few minutes to bubble and dissolve.
They are excellent for those sensitive to smell because the perfume doesn't stay.
How I did it is as follows:
In everything
The multipurpose cleaner Allthings was created for regular usage in and around the home.
Not unsealed surfaces like wood and natural stone, but worktops, high chairs, tables, and other hard surfaces.
When I sprayed it over my kitchen surfaces, the aroma was the first thing I noticed.
Allthings has a reviving grapefruit and mandarin aroma, in contrast to some harsher multipurpose cleansers that emit chemical fumes or phoney "floral" odours. It's also not overbearing.
My kitchen countertops got a good cleaning using the all-purpose spray.
I like that Allthings' goal isn't to eradicate microorganisms from home completely.
Completely sterile homes are unhealthy. Having cleaning chemicals around long after spraying them on is also unhealthy.
Instead, it uses mild surfactants that kill bacteria without being biocidal and citric acid's natural antibacterial ingredient.
Baththings
I use Baththings, a gorgeous blue colour, to clean my shower and sink. They both sparkled as a result, which I was happy to see.
The water in my shower, in particular, had a rusty hue. With some effort, I could remove most of it with Baththings.
As a beautiful surprise, it also unclogged my slightly clogged shower drain.
Around the sink and bathroom, the cleaner works effectively. I advise using a more specialised cleaner in the toilet to obtain a more thorough cleaning.
Both items smelled lovely and fragrant, like lavender. A welcome break from bleach's nauseating odour.
Shiny objects
Use Green Shiny things for mirrors, windows, stainless steel, and anything else that requires a shine.
After spraying it with the cleaner, I used a dry towel to wipe my bathroom mirror. It worked nicely. There are no visible smears.
It's excellent since you don't need much of it to be effective; therefore, I still have nearly the entire bottle. Extremely frugal.
Sweet peony was the aroma. It is excellent for those sensitive to fragrance because it is not overbearing and doesn't linger.
Detergent Tabs
Ninety-six percent of the contents in all-in-one eco tabs are derived from plants and minerals.
I felt much better using them on things because they are vegan, cruelty-free, and devoid of chlorine and phosphates.
My soiled plates were also thoroughly cleaned by the tabs.
Once more, the tabs are packaged in recyclable materials and are contained within biodegradable cases that you don't remove.
As usual, you may place them in the dishwasher. Not at all difficult.
Other household goods and cleaning supplies
The Home Things goods I tried out were not all of them. Laundry things pods are among the additional goods.
Flooring
Washing up things
The collection will undoubtedly continue to expand as well.
How does the cost of the product compare to similar ones?
Sometimes choosing more environmentally friendly cleaning supplies means paying more money.
After one clean, I still have many cleaning supplies left over (often nearly an entire bottle!) That is a decent bargain, in my opinion.
